Hello, I'm new around here. Merry Christmas and Happy New year.

Now back to business: My 1997 Explorer XLT died last week 300 feet from home (thanks God). It just shut off and won't start. It cranks but nothing. I've checked power to the spark plugs and is ok. Also the driver side window stopped working at the sime time, kinda weird.

I've checked the fuel rail with the shreaeder valve, and there is no fuel squirting out of it. I would like to know a way of checking the fuel pump directly, before embarking myself in the tedious task of a fuel pump exchange.

But I'm confident is got to be an electrical issue, since the problem with the window. I accessed the security system, and there was a broke wire coming out of the shock breaker system. I resolded it, but still nothing.

Any ideas? Many thanks.

Martin

fuses? relays? anything?

Replaced fuel pump relay with another relay, and no luck. All fuses are OK. If I try to bring the driver window down (is already down and won't come up) I can hear a relay clicking. But if I try to raise the window, nothing happens. All the other windows and electrical systems work ok. Can it be the anti-theft system blocking the fuel somehow? How can I figure that out?

Thanks again for your help. I'm desperate, since is almost year end, and I need my car for tomorrow, and no repair shops are open.

The fuel pump usually runs for two or three seconds after you turn on the key. Can you hear it?

Don't forget the fuel pump reset switch under the passenger side dash. It turns off the fuel pump if you roll the truck. But sometimes they screw up. Push the reset button on top.

this has nothing to do with your XLT so i'm sorry but.. i've been to venezuela... como estas?? yo fue a caracas y puerta la cruz. yo fue ir ver mi amigo pablo. el vive en puerta. el juegas beisbol conmigo en mi college en indiana..

good luck with your XLT

Also, when checking the inertia switch, make sure the connector is firmly attached.

Checker everything and still nothing. The pump doesn't make any sound at all. Not even with the fuel filter removed, which was very dirty, BTW. So I presume the pump simply burned out trying to pull fuel thru a clogged filter. I'm removing the tank now. Great job for a December 31st :(

Hey "G" hope you had a great time here. Take care and thanks.

When you have the tank down, make sure you are getting juice to the pump. If not, then it probably isn't the pump.

have you checkes the battery? or the alternator? did you try Jumping it?

dombo

Do you have a VOM meter look to see if you have 12 volts geting to pump if so bench check the pump with a good batery to see if it runs. Some times pumps will run but not pump as the thing sucks air and loses vacume presure.
good luck

Trying that, I removed the pump and connected it directly with a pair of wires to the battery terminals and didn't moved. Nothing. Nada.

How may I test if she is receiving power? There are two connectors. One with 8 wires and another one with 3 wires. Which one should I test?

Thanks

Fixed!!!

New pump and filter, and I'm back in business. Now I need to figure out what happened with the driver side power window. Still not working, even though the rest are.

Million thanks to All for your help.

Happy New Year

On your window issue, the main difference between the driver's side and the rest is that there is a relay in the circuit... the "one touch" relay to cause the window to go completely down when you touch your button (ie. you don't have to hold it). That relay is probably what you are hearing and its "impairing" the control circuit so that the window can't go up. My guess.
