Mysterious Knocking sound ?

I got the flywheel replaced yesterday. It was cracked. My mechanic did not charge me for the work since he had just recently relpaced it. He said it could have been a defective part or something in the motor may be causing the problem. I guess I'll drive it til it happens again.

1. the transfer case can come out with the tranny, you do not have to take it off in order to drop the transmission. it will just be lop sided, any good tranny jack will compensate for this.

2. don't take your own parts into a shop it bugs us....espically when you come back saying the problem still exist and it's our fault. if you're going to call around, as for there parts and warranty. find one with a good warranty and stick with it.

also when you get a quote from a good shop and the part is "too expensive" don't go to a cost less auto parts store and get a quote from them on the part. of course they're going to be cheaper...

sorry, just some stuff i had to say

It wasnt too hard to drop the tranny in the 94 when i first did it.. the 2nd time was ok, and the 3rd time (had to take one out of a 91 to use for the 94 lol) was easier.

First time it went, oil pump imploded, 2nd time, reverse planetary exploded, 3rd time, all the clutches were toast. Just cant wait for flywheel issues..

Always something to look forward to when you own an X
He said that he did replace the spacer with a heavier part. I'm not sure if it was cracked or not but, the flywheel was.

hey i have a 93 explorer with a mystery sound that happens only when i start my suv
in the morning,it sounds like lifter noise, and as it warms for ten min it comes and goes, then dissapears.could this be that spacer?also it seems to be comming from the insid drivers side fender well.
