'97 Mercury Mountaineer
Guys i need some help. Two days ago my '97 Mountaineer:exp: was running just fine, I put some refrigerant in for the A/C and it was downhill from there. While driving I noticed the check engine light came on, then I noticed the battery gauge was reading low and steadily dropping.

As I continue to drive everything goes haywire! My dash lights eventually fade out to black, my headlights start dimming, the radio goes off, ABS light comes on, and a strange beeping is coming from dash. By now the battery gauge is sitting right on the "L"(low). My headlights go completely out and the truck shuts off.

I can jump the truck off but the power drains right back down and it turns off. Any ideas????

Sure sounds like a bad alternator to me. Pull it and take it to an auto store to have them check it. You should also get a new battery, as pulling one that far down ruins it.
