2000 XLT SOHC
Hey guys, my first post here though I've been lurking for some time now. For a time now I've wanted an Explorer and finally found a good deal on a used 2000 Explorer XLT SOHC. It's a dream. I really love it and you can say I feel powerful in the road =P. Spacey, I like how it rides, can take it for some off-road adventuring which I already did, but I have a big big problem that I discovered today on a long trip (I've had it for about 5 days or so).

Yesterday before the trip I decided to give it a tune up and saw the car practically had no oil, though the dashboard meter claimed it was just the perfect pressure. I rushed and purchased some more oil. Fast forward today I decide to check it just for the heck of it before going off-road. Well, thing was supposedly without any oil at all. Also, along the trip, I noticed smoke coming from the hood and from the car sides. The problem was so bad the rear door was practically bathed in oil. I bought some oil and not wanting to ruin the trip just kept going ahead and got home safely. I looked at under the car and I am sure the oil is falling just over the exhaust pipe below the motor, which causes all that smoke. I haven't pinpointed the exact location but it seems to be the rear part of the motor. I've heard of seals and other problems but I am asking for some input before going into a costly repair if I can fix it myself, so if any of you guys out there could help I would greatly appreciated it!

Also, the car has the MAX AC problem where it suddenly changes to the upper vents though I found the fix in the forums, the vacuum it seems, so thanks for all the guides. Will be fixing that this week.

Anyway, input is very appreciated. Hope I posted this in the correct place!

Check it. No go. Cleaned it the underside of the car with degreaser to pinpoint the exact place of the leak.

Also noticed it leaks coolant and some power steering fluid. This one definitely needs a visit to the mechanic
