- '99 XLT 4X4 4.0 OHV Auto
hey guys, well i fianlly bought my first vehicle on tuesday. got it at the local used car lot. its a 1996 Ford Explorer XL 4x4, 4.0 with a 5 speed. really suprised i found a 5 speed, the last owner swapped it in tho the little box where it shows u waht gear u are in on an auto is in the dash lol. anyway it runs good, needs ehxhaust. has 120,x.. miles but i think they are highway.
anyway i got home from school and i noticed it smoking slightly, opened the hood and there was oil on the dirvers side exhaust manifold. i looked at it and my friend did too, he said looks like its leaking from valve cover. the oil is black as hell so it hasnt been changed in a while, i check every day and add some as needed. does it hurt to drive it a few miles a day, gotta get to work lol, anyone have any idea where it is the vavle cover, or the gasket etc. i noticed oil all around the cover. passenger side also has some too but doesnt look fresh. anyone give me a rough estimate on cost to fix.
thanks alot.
