I have the MFT system without the factory navigation option.
Over the past few days, I started getting turn by turn navigation instructions over the radio. I took the following steps to resolve the problem.
1. Turned off bluetooth on my phone. It appears that the MFT is trying to communicate with the phone for instructions since it says something like "retrieve calculation" whenever I don't go the expected direction at intersections. If I have bluetooth turned on then I'll get actual detailed instructions over the radio to turn at a particular street.
2. Master reset of the MFT. No change after.
3. Disconnected car battery for 10 minutes. No change after.
4. Removed all phones from the MFT. It acted the same as when the bluetooth was turned off in step 1.
I'm at a loss to explain why it's doing this at all since I don't have the factory navigation option.
I can't do any more experimentation until next month since I'm away for work, but if anyone has any ideas I'll be happy to try them when I get home.
