Ok, with the weather heating up a little lately(Around 70), I turned my A/C on today and after about 10 minutes of feeling warm air coming out, I turned it off. I had the button pushed in for AC had it in the cold region and had it on max ac so those aren't the problems. Then I turned it over to the red and turned the heat on and oh my god it was extremely hot, probably way past 100 degrees. The temp. guage is in the middle. I popped the hood and checked the upper radiator hose and I was really hot (if that helps you figure out my problem). I don't know if it has something to do withmy thermostat or maybe the freon in the system is out and I need to get that done. Or if it is the freon, would I be better off converting it to R134A? How hard is this conversion? What all is involved? Thanks

Not your TStat. It sounds like your compressor is okay also. No loud noises and rumblings from the compressor? You are just out of freon. Unfortunatly, you will have to convert to R134a. There are plenty here that have done the conversion and have provided very good detailed instructions. Do a search for r134 and look them over. The conversion and recharge isn't very $$.
Good Luck.

I just did the conversion. As long as the compressor isn't making any noise you'll be fine. I replaced the Accumulator/Dryer and the orafice tube (a little inline filter below the accumulator) and added another inline filter on the return line just before the compressor (extends life of system). Orafice - $6, filter - free from mechanic, accumulator $30, new fittings $5. About 2 hours work., Bring it to a shop to be pressure checked and filled.
