hi there... I was hoping to be enlightened on whether or not it would be a good move for me to purchase this truck or not. It's a 92 2dr explorer with 130,000 (KM's) on the engine. It is a 5 speed with A/C, push button 4x4 manual everything else. It's in Excellent shape with a new paint job and was lady driven since day one. Are these vehicles reliable and if i buy it, will i get some good life out of it? Thnks for the opinions, and also, do these things have any balls acceleratiion wise? Keep in mind i drive a 3 cyl firefly right now.(automatic)

welcome to the sight, of course your going to get a biased answer around here if it a good truck or not. As long as it has been properly maintained with regular oil changes and other fluid changes you should have plently of miles left on her. there are many people on this board with trucks over 300,000. Just check everything out good and she is asking a decent price and this is something you want, then of course pursue it. good luck

Just some info. I've read on this board the 5speeds are much more reliable than the automatic-I think.

I have got 171,000 miles and have had zero problems except for:

1. U-joints 160,000 (I consider this to be normal)
2. Brakes just about once a year or every 20-30k miles
3. A/C went out a year ago.

The engine has some guts, but remember the truck is pretty heavy. Don't go in expecting it to be a high performance car. However, you will read on here where some guys have outrun the Honda crowd.

130,000 km = about 70000 miles = Very Low Miles for a 92. It's got low miles, but keep in mind that most of the parts on the truck are 10+ years old. Things do wear out (door handles, plastic switches, etc.). But if the drivetrain is good and has been properly maintained, and the price is right, you won't be hurt buying it.

I had a 91 with 380,000+ miles on it before the tranny went out. Just get a good price for it and you will be fine.

Definately pay the money for a carfax report.. 70k miles is low.. 170k miles is more common.

Using the carfax report you can see how its history has been. if you check and it has failed emisions every year or so, then you know it is having problems...

If all you see is registrations and the mileage coincides(sp?) with what the odometer says then you have a little piece of mind.

Do keep in mind, that even in great condition, some parts will be wearing out after 10 years... but with the 5 speed you don't have to worry about a $2k repair job on the tranny.

right on... that sounds great! I don't mind the little stuff breaking but just as long as the tranny and engine hold out for a long time I'm happy, brakes and general tune-ups i can do myself. Thanks for the reply guys and if I do buy it i'll post some pics of it before some mods. I can never keep a vehicle stock for long...... mmmm already thinking 33's??? :D

here is mine it is almost what you are looking at. I have hade pretty good luck with it and will keep it for a long time to come. Mine has 140,000 miles on it and its a 93
