I've been using the standard brake pads that Pep Boys sells. This is the second pair that has worn out (fronts) within 10 months. Can anybody recommend a better source for pads? Should I go with the "low dusting" ones from Pep Boys that sell for about $90?

Also, my rotors don't seem to be warped or gouged, but I have to wonder if they are the cause for me going through pads so quickly. They have already been cut once. I assume they will not be able to be cut to spec again? Where is the best place to get decent rotors at a decent price?

Tx for the help!

I got my rotors from Autozone for less than Pep Boys wanted. I have only had them on for about 3K miles but they are as good or better than stock. I did put Pep Boys rotors and drums on my Wife's Sable about 10K ago and her car has a severe shake when stepping on the brakes moderate to hard so I don't feel they held up as well as they should have.

Robert: Tx for the info.

Anybody have any recommendations for pads?

I also got my pads from Autozone. For the fronts I went with one step below their ceramic pads. For the rear all they have in stock is their base level metallic pads. Go to Autozone's web-site and create a profile. It will show you what they have. On my Wife's car I put Raybestos Brute Stop Premium pads and standard shoes. I can't say how they are since the rotors or drums warped after 10K miles. I plan on getting them turned in the next couple of weeks to get rid of the shakes.

I run the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads you can get at AutoZone. They stop better than the pads that were on there before. I'd say their only drawback is that they do leave a little more brake dust than normal.

They have lasted 20,000 miles so far, and I ran them with warped rotors for the first 10,000 miles. As a result they are about 1/2 down.

As far as rotors go, you should look into the ART rotors. There is information about them on this site, in the tech articles.

I tried raybestos from pep boys, I even tried the ceramic one and it fries my rotor. I changed the rotor to a slotted one and used the original ford brake pads and it works great so far. It also comes with the anti-rattle unlike the after market pads.

Rhett:

I just went with the carbon metallic pads from Autozone. They told me they were low dusting! Oh well.

low dusting? well maybe so, but not in my experience.
I will say that since I had the rotors machined on my truck, there seems to be less brake dust on the wheels. This is probably because the warped rotors were scouring the pads more than usual...

Really I don't care how much dust the pads produce, as long as they perform well.
