I installed a K&N cold air intake on my V8 4X4 XLT and it’s great but with the stock exhaust the CAI roars like a wounded water buffalo. It’s clear that I need a healthier sounding exhaust. I want it to sound deeper and throatier but not loud and obnoxious. Keeping the single exhaust system seems to be the best bang for the buck. Have any of you made any muffler/exhaust changes that you like?

When I first got my Trac three years ago, I reomoved the OEM muffler & resonator and had a Flowmaster Delta Flow 50 installed. It sounded really good on the V8. I also have the K&N CAI. Nice, deep rumble at idle, and a good throaty roar at WOT, but no cabin drone at highway speeds. Last summer, I bought a used Magnaflow cat-back stainless steel system from another Trac owner and replaced the FM muffler with the Magnaflow system. It sounds similar to the FM, but not quite as loud. The thing I like about it is that it’s a bolt-on system from the cat back, which makes for an easy install. I also like that it’s all stainless steel, so rust will never be an issue.

Gibson also makes a cat-back system. I believe it’s a little deeper/louder than the MF system.

Since I live at the coast, stainless is a must.

If you want a deep sounding exhaust, Magnaflow is the answer.
