Hi everyone,
New member here, working on my wifes 2002 explorer.
She started having several issues with it lately, and I'm pretty mechanically inclined, built numerous cars from the ground up in my lifetime, but I am at a loss on this one.
The pinion bearing went on the rear a few weeks ago, so I just replaced the rear, what a pain that was!! BUT, I got it done.
The rear is perfect now, nice and quiet and smooth.
But, the issue is still there.
Here is the problem, and it only happens intermittently. At speed, and after it warms up a bit, there is a loud grinding noise, and the truck starts to buck and miss, and barely wants to move. It seems to only do this once in a while, but is becoming more often.
When I replaced the rear end, I noticed one front driveshat was leaking, so I replaced that as well. Now, I also put in new upper control arms, and lower ball joints on the front about 2 months ago.
Now, this grinding and sputtering is still going on.
Any ideas?
