Need help cleaning out mouse nest

2002 Explorer.
To make a long story short, a mouse made a nest behind the glove box. I found it after tracking down the smell and a very long search. There is a very cozy spot up on top of what looks, to me, like the heater/AC blower.
It looks like there are 2 parts. Is there a way to take it apart so I can clean it properly. It looks like there is some sort of debris when I getly separate the 2 peices

Welcome! You might open that thing and have a hundred mice jump out... and their remains fall out too. You might wanna have pest control look in to that... unless you are pest control, I wouldn't touch it.

Welcome to this forum! Mouse urine isn't noticeable unless you have a UV light.

I hate mice. I hope the little *******s (there rarely is just one) weren't nibbling on your wiring harness prior to their demise.

Wow, how on earth did they get inside the truck?

Some mice made a nest between the upper and lower intake manifold on a friends 98 5.0 Explorer. haha It was packed with fiberglass insulation and other assorted materials.

I have no idea how it(they) got in there.
Its my sons truck and he is at college, most of the time.
I guess we should use it a bit more often.
The fuel pump fuse blew about a week ago....it maybe related
Any ideas on how to get those pesky parts out ?
Or do I give up and take it ot the dealer

I say you should just start tearing into it to clean the crap out. Also do a careful inspection of the vehicle to find out how they got inside. There can't be very many places that a mouse could get into. Most of the body is enclosed steel. There are some rubber plugs, and plastic components such as the heater/AC box that they could have chewed through. Start looking in the areas closest to the nest and then work your way to other parts of the vehicle if you don't find any openings.

If you DIY, I'd strongly suggest a HEPA filter respirator as well as hand protection from both disease and potential bites if one of the little *******s is still alive up there. Rodent feces can contain a whole bunch of nasty diseases including the Hanta virus.

My sister had an '04 XLT that had a mouse in it a couple of years ago. Scared the **** out of her one day when driving to work. It was always garaged. I spent a whole day cleaning it out for her and never found the culprit. Eventually, it went away.

I recently started driving my '02 XLT again. It had been sitting outside for quite a while due to driving a company provided vehicle. When cleaning it up, I found mouse droppings in the vehicle. I nearly gagged from the smell coming from the air vents when I turned on the fan. There is a nest or something in the ducts. It also appears that there is something above the blower fan in the ductwork. I am going to pull the blower motor for access. Did you have any success removing yours? Any suggestions? Can this be accessed from the outside air intake? Any help would be appreciated.
