A few months ago my dad and I replaced the brakes on my 99 Ford Explorer. I never dome it before and he walked me through it. A few weeks later I noticed a clunk noise coming from the driver side of the explorer. The sound would happen every time I went over a bump or just an uneven part of the road. I ignored it for awhile, but now my ABS light has come on and stayed on for the past two days. I did some research and got anything from a tie rod end, uca, wheel bearing, or caliber bolts. I don't honestly know much about car maint, but tomorrow morning I am going to jack the explorer up and take the wheel off. Is there any advice you can give me on what exactly I should be looking for when I do this to locate the sound? I heard also I should try and shake the wheel?

The clunk noise sounds as though it comes from somewhere around the wheel and then vibrates under the floorboards, it's especially loud and bad when going over speed bumps. It's only on the drivers side.

Any advice would help and be greatly appreciated.

It's an explorer, if it's been a few months since you worked on it, it's time for something else to break. It's hard to say from here but when you get it jacked up, use a long bar to pry up on the bottom of the tire to check for play, then grab it and wiggle side to side and try to pull out and push back in. If you have help, you could have someone watch the front end parts while you move the wheel to see if there's any movement. Don't pry it off the jack and squash your friend.

Welcome to my world! My 98 explorer has that same clunk. NO ONE and I mean no one knows what is causing it. My whole front end suspension is rebuilt all except for one peice. Not sure what its called. Anyone who can tell me what its called tell me, I want it replaced
--The picture posted is a bad picture (taken by my phone), but this is the only bad thing that is on my front end, and it sounds like thats where the clunk is coming from

If you notice half of the seal (I think) is completely gone on the side you can see in the picture.
