guys, im about halfway done the install of my stealth box and amp (im gonna attempt to mount the amp behind the rear interior panel, but i need to make up a panel out of mdf to mount it to.)

anyway, i was getting ready to mount the fuse under the hood, but there arent many options under there. is it ok if i mount the fuse behind the interior panel next to the amp and the distribution block?...wait, i guess id be screwed if i needed to replace the fuse, heh.

anyone have any suggestions about where to mount the fuse? where under the hood have you guys mounted yours? (please be specific.)

thanks :)

you want it as close to the battery as possible

thanks, jon. i figured that, thats why i asked. well, at least now i know for sure its gotta go under the hood.

anyone have any suggestions of placement? like, next to what component under the hood did most of you guys mount yours?

thanks.

I would mount the fuse as close to the + battery termina; as possible.

All of my fuses are within a foot of the battery. Their wires are folded between the battery and the inner fender.

what ive seen people do and what i did was just put it on top of battery. didnt mount since there is no room for it. may be different on your year model but i think there still isnt a lot of room. just make sure you get both ends of the wire in the holder so when your driving it doesnt come apart. havent had a problem yet with mine. which type do you have look at these links and tell me what style you have.

if you have the second one you can put it between the battery. if you have the first one like mine i could only fit it on top hope this helps. i would take a pic and show you but i havent got my explorer back yet. hope this helps and i didnt confuse you:eek:

the one i have is the second style one.

i found 2 decent places for it so far. one is right next to the drivers side hood strut (on the drivers side of the strut) on the firewall, and the other is on the inside of the driver side fender. the only problem with the second one is that i would have to remove the power distribution block/junction box to mount the fuse (which wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt so damn cold out), but once its mounted, i wouldnt have to remove it to change the fuse, i could just fit my hand in there. im really kicking myself in the ass for not bringing my digital camera home from school for the weekend so i could see what you guys think.

Tbomb - when you get a chance

I'm looking at a similar set up and wondering what amp you're using to power the thunderform and what lenghts of wires you used. Any pictures would be great.

Right now I'm leaning towards a MTX 4202 but looking for other ideas.

This spot worked out great for mine:

hey, thats acctually a really good idea :) im not running my power wire to the battery, im running it to the power distribution box terminal, which is right under the plastic cover that you mounted your fuse on. ill give it a better look tomorrow.

cartman, im taking pics, but theyre not digital, so when i get them developed and scanned ill post em. and im not using a thunderform, i bought a q-logic box and i put a 10" orion in it with an orion cobalt amp on it. send me a PM and i can give you the details and wire lengths and all that crap, unless you wanna wait until i post the whole install with all the details (but that wont be for a while, since i have to get the film developed and put on cd and stuff.)

Here's where I drilled and ran the power wire through the firewall:
