So i was driving down the road yesterday from work and all the sudden the truck turns off like i turned the key off. There was no hesitation sputter or anything it just died. I tried to restart it but all it did was crank and crank. So i had it towed back home and put a crank sensor on it... no luck. As of right now there is no spark or fuel...

Ive been told that because i made the mistake of not disconnecting my battery when i was mig welding on it that i sould have fried the computer. Could that be? I had the ICM teste too and it passed.

Any ideas fellow explorer owners... i need the truck running A.S.A.P
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out!

Yes, it is possible to damage the computer that way, but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion prematurely.

KOEO (before turning to start) does the CEL come on to indicate that the PCM has power? I'd probably start by checking the PCM power and ground circuits.

Well as an update. i posted this thread right b4 i went to the junkyard to get a computer... it was only $35 but that still didnt sole the problem and neither did 2 new relays in the fuse box under the hood. After reading yur post McShorty im not to sure if the CEL is on because the light burned out about a month ago and i haven fixed it yet. Guess its time to get a new bulb and post back.

Do you or anyone else have a diagram of all the negative and positive power leads?

I use the wiring diagrams in Chiltons most of the time (which I think you can still get on autozone's web site). I find them adequate for a lot of circuits.

that pcm from the junk yard will never start the car.

your keys are programed to one pcm, the 2nd pcm you have is not programed to your keys.

now with the old pcm in when you turn the key on, does the cel light up?

and the red light on the dash what does it do.

you did check the inertial switch right?

as far as the CEL light i still need to get a new bulb because it burnt out. what red light on the dash would you be talking about? The relays for the EEC and fuel pump both click when i turn the key to the on pos.

My 94's keys aren't programmable, did Ford do a programmable key in 94?

ok... kinda scared me. so the junkyard compter will wok if the my old computer is fried?

yeh it should work with just a swap.

as long as the computer is out of same year. engine size etc.

ok so i have a CEl light when i turn the key on (lose bulb). I now have spark as well ( Blown fuse for the computer). I still however do not have fuel pressure. I checked all the fuses and relays for the fuel pump and all are good. I used a test light at the plug that leads into the sendin unit and there is now power to it.The inertia switch has been checked and is not triped.

My questions is what do i do now lol.
I followed the wires from the fuel pump up the frame. I came across a small black box that wires from the the wireing harnes of the fuel pump lead to but wires also lead up the fire wall to the main harness. What is that small box? Loacted on the frame just below the firewall (almost looks likes the ICm on core support)

Thanks...

unless the car starts, the fuel pump only gets about 15-30seconds of power before it takes power away from that cir.

i dont hear the fuel pump turn on tho when i turn the key

if you put a test light at the inerta switch do you get power to it? when you cycle the key on.

fuse 18 under the hood is good? should be a 20 amp fuse.

i havent tried the inertia switch test with a light. The fuse is good and i have power there when checked with a test light. I have no power at the rear plug to the pump.

reason i say inertia switch is 100x easier to get to also it can be bad and open. so you know you are not getting power at the pump. check the switch if the switch is good, now you have 1 of 2 problems, fp relay, or the wires for the fp relay. is that getting power, is the pcm grounding it, and is the switched power good and is the cir from the relay to the pump good.

UPDATE: THE GOLD DIGGER IS UP AND RUNNING.

Turns out... i blew the 30 amp fuse that leads to the computer, fried the computer and somehow the plug for the fuel pump shorted out all at the same time.
Replaced fuse and computer and just hard wired the fuel pump to the wireing harness. Hopefully all is good for now. Need the truck to make it to colorado and back from michigan for its 4th trip. LOL bringing many tools wires and fuses.

Thanks again to all of you who helped out with the problem solveing.
