Hi everyone, I have a problem installing after market radio. I have a 99 sport with premium sound. I don't know what wire harness to use because there is 2 connectors in the back of the OEM radio that looks like this.

There are two pin connectors that connect to the factory deck, they look like this except one of the connectors only has 1 wire. What should I do? I can only find a amp bypass for the 98 explorer not the 99..PLEASE HELP

you need 70-1771. it will plug into the factory harness then you connect the loose wires to the aftermarket head unit wires.

I appear to have the same radio as GoodGuy.

I have a 2000 Explorer Sport with the same 2 connectors.

I know that the 16 pin connector is for the power and the speakers. That part is easy.

I am not sure about the 3 row connector. I do have the rear control panel for the radio, so could this 20 pin connector be for the rear controls?

Answer. I disconnected the 20 pin plug. The rear controls do not work but the stock radio works perfectly. So it appears that the 20 pin plug is for the rear controls.

That just leaves the 16 pin connector for the power connections, illumination, and speakers.

Does that help GoodGuy?

I had the same thing and had the same question. One of the OEM harnesses is NOT used. Just the one which fits the harness that you just bought to go along with the new headunit. I believe the square one is not used. I just tucked mine back behind everything. That way I can reconnect the OEM system, if I every wanted to.

I did the install today. I installed a Jensen HD5112 head unit.

The adapter harness had 4 connectors on it, of which, I cut off 3. :D

Only needed the one rectangular connector. The connector for the rear controls, I just tucked back in the dash.

I taped off the cut ends of the other connectors, then I soldered and heat-shrinked the wires together from the Jensen to the adapter harness. Hooked it up to test and everything worked. Great sound.

The Jensen is an AM/FM/HDRadio/CD/MP3/WMA setup and it also accepts SD cards and IPOD's. There are also the connections for an XM and Sirius hookups. Pretty nice system. Only $130 at WalMart.
