OK, I have a large hole in my gas tank(story to follow) and I do not know what my insurance deducatble is going to be yet. Does anyone know how much a new tank or quality used one would cost? More importantly does anyone know how to remove and install the new tank? Any pictures? I have a feeling I am going to have to swap the new tank in myself. For the time being I put some tank seal (like putty) in the hole so I could move it from where it was. Worst comes to worst I can fill it up some and drive it to my work (dealership) so that I can do the swap myself. The tank would be for a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 V6 SOCH.
OK now how all this happened....
I got home from work last night at around 9:30pm. I could not park where I usually do, the lot under my dorm or in front of it. So, I had to park my freshly detailed truck in the lot by the tennis courts (rough side of Dover). So, at 4:30 I go out to my truck get in and start it. I watch my gas gauge drop from 1/4 tank to below E and my gas light come on, I instantly turned it off and got out to investigate. It had rained but there seemed to be an abnormally large puddle under my truck. Oh ****, I get down on the ground and look at my tank. Some crackhead decided that they best way to get the gas out of my tank was to smash at it with something (thinking a hatchet) I see a couple tool marks then a large hole in my tank, gas and fumes still leaking from a very fresh hole. I go to security and they call the police blah blah blah. There were tons of palm and finger prints all over my truck from the idiot touching it with gas all over his hands, the Cop dismissed this and proceeded to tell me that basically they really werent going to try and catch the guy because he wouldnt have the money to fix it anyway. So, I have the call into my insurance company. In the meantime, the Cop told me to make sure I find a way to move my truck because the mutant (his words) that did it would come back and miss with it if it was still sitting there. So, I get my buddy to drive me to pep boys. The guy there proceeded to try and sell my bondo. So, I went and found some gas tank repair putty. Went to the gas station and got $1.65, because that was the amount of change in my wallet. Went back kneded the putty stuck it in and around the hole then waited for an hour (it said 2-3 hours). I had to speed it up because I am from a city originally, and I can tell when a couple of junkies are trying to ambush me and I kept spotting them and they responded with Oh yea man whats up as they briskly walked by. After an hour of waiting, I put in the gas and drove it over to the lot infront of my dorm, which is about 150 yards from where it was. I checked when I got out and there was a slight leak. But, this shows that if nothing else I can dump so gas in and get it to my work if I have to. SO THAT IS HOW I SPENT MY AFTERNOON/EVENING!!! YEA! So, I would Greatly Appreciate Any Help Anyone Can Offer! Thank you!
