In my 96 explorer sport when I'm driving and have the clutch fully engaged if I lay on the throttle it seems to hop out of gear and rev up. I think my clutch isint fully engaging and when I put my foot on the gas the excess of torque overcomes the clutch causing it to just rev up not accelerate please help me if this sounds familiar or you can help me figure out what's wrong

your clutch is slipping. you need to replace it. manual transmissions don't slip.

What do you think that's going to cost me

a cheap clutch kit, at one of the discount auto parts stores, runs between $100-$120 with a lifetime warranty. better quality ones are more expensive. RockAuto $109-$427. for the labor part (assuming you don't plan on changing it yourself) you'll have to shop around. i'd quess $200-$300 in labor. do you have a local mechanic you trust?

Figure on a new flywheel or resurface your current one ~$50 and definitely do a new slave cylinder ~$50-200 depending on quality. Most recommend Motorcraft I'm ok with a Dorman so far.

i'd stay away from Dorman for the slave cylinder. i used to sell them and there were too many defective returns for my taste. of course they're warrantied, but you have to pay the labor to replace it again. resurfacing the flywheel is a good idea, but if it's heat-checked it should be replaced.

Trans I put in is junk so I'll inspect the slave when I pull it next time. Hope I got a good one! Dorman was the only one to offer a complete kit so I went that route.

My clutch cost me $900 parts and labor at a trusted independent mechanic.

Luk clutch and slave cylinder. Resurfaced flywheel too. Now I think I need a shim to make up for the resurface.
