need help!! sliping gears. revs

hi my exporer 97 is slipping gears and revs out really bad before it moves a tiny bit and thats in drive and reverse and all the gears .... it has oil in it some say i need a new gearbox but yesterday my partner tapped on the gearbox underneath and it worked for like a min it was driving fine again but only for a min..i really feel that it may be a blockage or something like that i guess i hope anyway lol thanks i would apreciate peoples opinions xx

I assume it is an auto? Drop the pan and look for junk that shouldn't be there, check that the filter is in place, the bolt may have came loose and the o rings on it are good.
