need help to identify part

2000 mountainer, limited, orig owner, no mods.

trying to get electrical power to my power mirrors. power at fuse, no power at control switch.

what is the black plastic electrical cylinder in by the driver side door hinge?

it is bolted to the door and there is a dust cap with a bolt underneath.

i do not want to disassemble it without knowing the consequences. could my power issue be inside this part?

or any help in troubleshooting mirrors.

maybe water intrussion?

That would be the pass-thru for the door wiring harness... No need to pull it apart, just check for power on both sides of it. If you've got power in and no power out, it could certainly be a broken wire in it.

You should be checking the OG/LG wire, and fuse #1 (7.5A) in the central junction box, correct?

thanks for the reply.

yes, power at #1, in dashboard fusebox by driver's door, 7.5 amp. fuse is GOOD.

no power at orange/green, or any of the eight wires into selector/adjustment switch. black ground wire has continuity to ground so it must be good. i know switch reverses polarity to motors for in/out & up/down movement of mirrors.

i tried putting power directly to the or/gn wire and left mirror moved in one direction only. i may be looking at a short AND defective switch?

does not appear to be easy to pull apart junction box, due to limited space in the door hinge area. unbolt from door? or bolt under dust cap? also has two clips on the sides that i can reach. do not want to make a mess and screw up the power windows, door locks, or puddle lights, all of which are operating fine.

i just like for everything on my cars to work the way it should.

I hear ya'.

If you remove the knee panel (the piece that gies below the steering column), you should be able to see where that bundle runs into the door jamb. If you're lucky, that wire will be laying right up on the outside of the bundle that runs into the door. It would just be one way to verify the power is getting through the junction box properly.

I've never disassembled the wiring loom in the door area... Can't tell ya' how that assembly comes apart. I'll have to look closer at mine today.
