well I searched around the forums for a little while but didnt find anything on this. I have heard a strange noise not all the time but every so often when my truck is in park and I turn the engine off. it is like a series of 4-5 clunks and sounds like its coming from the front passenger side. its a 99 xlt 4.0 ohv. Has anyone had any similar experience?

Could it be the cat converter shield rattling? Just a thought....

Does it sound like the motor is dieseling? That sound of clunk?

not really just sounds like 2 heavy metal things clunking against each other or something if i had to try to pin point exactly where it was coming from sounds kind of like near the front passengers feet either under the floor board or behind the firewall board but i could be wrong

My guess is the AC Evaporator and/or heater core cooling down/warming up. As the metal they're made of expands or contracts, it can make some weird noises.

Cats cooling can make sounds too... pipes expand when hot and contract when cool.

Could also be the blend door slowly swinging shut, possibly?

Have someone shut the car off while you are looking.
