99' explorer 4x4 sport
hey guys so im new to lifting trucks and all this stuff, but i recently got my hands on a 99 explorer 4x4 sport and i want to put atleast a 3 inch lift in it without doing a body lift, so bassicaly just torsion key, shackles and leaf springs. my problem though is i cant seem to find any leaf springs or torsion keys, or shackles for that matter for this specific make model and year. if anyone could help me out here that would be great!

You can't do 3" on a 4x4 with a torsion lift. 2" max. Torsion keys are adjustable from factory and you don't need aftermarket keys. Shackles might give you a maximum of 2"...temporarily. Add a leaf will give you about the same.

Have you tried the search function at the top of the page yet? Lots more info and details that way. Hope I helped get you started though.

okay good to know! and why are the shackles only temporary? and if you had to pick between add a leaf or shackles which is better?

if i cant get a 3" from torsion keys and add a leafs how could i get it?

The leaf pack will flatten quicker with the shackles. I had shackles for a while but sold them in favor of add a leaf springs. I went with short ones but would recommend the longer (more expensive) add a leaf kits for comfort. Shackles are easier, though, and probably the reason more people choose them over the add a leaf. Roughly the same cost as a long add a leaf, though at around $80. Short add a leafs are about $35.

the problem i have with the add a leaf is i have a single leaf in my explorer and i just want a 3" because i can fit my 33's with little to no trimming, but if i can get a 2" lift im okay with doing the trimming

Search for adding 4 door leaf packs to the sport. Easy and common upgrade for not a lot of money and will give you plenty of room for 33s.

alright! thanks for the help!

10k road miles I take it. If looks are all you're after and the 4x4 won't be used, 3" is probably fine I guess...for 11k miles.

I don't use my rig as a "rock crawler" no....and neither will this kid.

I do however take some dune trails and wooded trails.

I would never take mine in the mud or anywhere near rocks.
I like it too much.

well its gonna be used as a daily driver/mud rig so its gonna see some mud and some rocks. but if i do shackles and add a leafs in the back what am i supposed to do for the front when i can only get 2" max from the torsion keys?
