Ok we got around two feet of snow and I slide into a ditch with my 93 explorer. Trying to get out my car threw out some transmission fluild and once i got out a could drive it and park it overnight. Once i came back the transmission will not go into gear after putting the three quarts of trans fluid back into it. I dont know whats wrong i checked all the cords to see if they came unplugged and none of them did not.Help please!!! :(

when you put it into drive and rev the engine does it go into gear then?

were did the fluid leak from? almost sounds like you blew a pump seal.

update

i am not sure where the fluid came from and i cant rev it and it will not go into gear. but i have been able to put it in the second gear and move it. but when i try to put it into another gear it makes a awful grinding sound.

You should re-torque your bands, I'm guessing that you have a broken band (among other things) you will find it when you go to torque the band. Also if your transmission overheated like that you may have also warped the clutch packs which will make it slip and just over heat again under load. 3 quarts low is a lot, this could have assisted in the demise I'm guessing it has been low for a while. I don't mean to be captain obvious here, but the grinding is really not good. That generally means some of the hard parts are broken. This spells transmission rebuild/replacement.

Your best bet is to probably look for a low mileage salvage yard replacement. Fortunately your options may be increased with the cash for clunkers currently populating many salvage yards. Otherwise if you have a tranny guy that you trust have them pull it a rebuild it. However be warned that many have been burned by tranny shops that are less then honest. If you have the skill/time/tools pickup a shop manual for your tranny and rebuild it yourself.

Is the tranny fluid in the correct markings? I had come across the same issue before and they overfilled the tranny. What happened was the fluid was from the power steering pump, and the person not being sure, dumped a bunch into the tranny.
