1992 Explorer XLT
Hey I have a 1992 Ford Explorer with the 4.0L V6 and today when my wife went to turn it on she heard a pop and the truck began to idle very eradic. It would sputter and almost shut off and everyonce and while it would shut off. I open the hood and I can hear the sucking noise of a leak and found where it is coming from. I just need to know what it goes to, since i cant find a broken of loose hose any where.

Here is a pic, the part is coming off intake. There is a small piece that comes off the intake that has like 6 lines coming from it and the one in the back facing the firewall closest to the intake is missing and i can feel it and hear it sucking. Need to know what it goes to to replace.

It probably had just a cap, if you can't find a hose for it. Just cap it for now, to get it to run well.

Man i just walked out to check my 92 for ya, and its exactly what RangerX said, its just a plug

Sweet cause I capped it and it ran well. Thanks for the quick reply and help.

I guess that POP was the cap coming off like a champagne cork.

In the future, if you are looking for a vacuum leak, use needle nose pliers and start squeezing off the lines, right near where the hose goes on the fitting and see if you can hear a change. That tells you which hose is the culpret. If that does not work then chase the hoses to the other end and do the same.

Okay the same thing just happened to me I went to start my 92 explorer and it went pop and started to idle funny, the one in the back facing the firewall closest to the intake is missing can I just cap this one??

Cap it. Then make sure your vaccum systems work, like the Ducting from Floor to Dash to Defrost. that is vacuum run, if the vacuum hose popped off for that system, it wont work. MAke sure your Cruise control works. just in case it was a hose and not a cap. that came off the Vacuum manifold.
