- 1999 Ford Ranger XLT
Hi, I recently bought a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT with the 4.0L V6.
Need some help diagnosing the noises I'm hearing. When I put it into any gear I hear a ticking noise. I know it's not the engine because it only does it when the transmission is engaged. I also get an occasional "thud" sensation when shifting from 2-3 I believe. Also when I am pulling a heavy load and it downshifts to make it up an incline I hear what sounds like something rattling around in the transmission.
Any thoughts on what this might be would be appreciated.
Thanks.
