Looking to spend under 80 bucks on front brake pads. Can I get some suggestions for trustworthy brakes that don't squeak? I have a 2004 and bought it in 2006. The dealer put new brakes on that started squeaking after a few months. The squeaking is so annoying now I'm embarrassed to hit the breaks! I saw some Duralast Golds on Autozone for about 65. Are there any other good online sources for parts?

Thanks

rockauto.com is a great place to buy well priced parts online.
for local stores, i suggest napa if you have one, they have good priced pads too.
buy some brake quiet gel and apply it to the back of the pads, that will kill the brake noise.

I use the Duralast Golds from Autozone. Gotta love a lifetime warranty on brake pads ^_^ lol

If the brakes started squeaking in a few months, it's not the pads. Your pads should not be shot unless you have put a lot of miles on them or there is another problem such as scored rotors, etc.

Your brakes can be silenced without replacing pads - buy some anti-brake pad squeak liquid - I just bought some today for my new brake pads, and clean and coat the back of the pads on the side of the caliper pistons. This is about a 3 dollar fix if you can work on brakes.

Raybestos, from Rock-Auto. Lifetime warranty is only good if the pads break, not wear out.

yea because they are hard as rocks- they will eat through some rotors faster than you can snap your fingers.

EBC Greenstuff.

$69 (I think) from Summit. Very little dust, great feel, great performance.

x2
I noticed a nice difference with these
I think they are about $60? and lifetime warranty is great.
Plus- they're local.
next time you need pads, pop the old ones off, go to autozone, the give you new ones for free and go home and put them on.

EBC GREENSTUFF. work great. i found mine on EBAY. think under 80. and they messed up and sent me 2 sets. good for me but bad for them.

i found all 4 rotors(drilled) and pads think i olny paid 250 on EBAY

Wagner ThermoQuiet (built in damper) have been silent for the last 10k miles.

Mabe if you get the cheap crappy semi metalic or non asbestos organic. u gotta get the ceramics.

The Duralast lifetime warranty are either way even if its just normal wear lol ^_^

U may wanna check that. I used to work there.

nobody has said the most probable cause of the squeeling. The rotors are probably warped. Any pad that goes on will squeel if the rotors are bad.

sorry, forgot about the thread..been very busy.

my uncle has worked on cars his whole life and looked at my rotors to make sure I don't need new ones or to have them cut. He said they were fine.

Why do they advertise brakes as ultra quiet then if its not the quality and material of the brakes that causes it?

I think I'm gonna go with duralast gold cmax front brakes 55 bucks

plus the 65-80 to install.

I think that's a good choice...
But you can do it yourself! they are not difficult. I did all 4 wheels in an hr, and that included washing the explorer after.
Just be safe when the truck is on the jack... use a jack stand.

Someday in the future, I'll crawl under the car to do an oil change. But I'm not risking screwing up brakes. I'll pay the extra money for ease of mind. If you live in Bergen County NJ, I'll pay you 40 bucks to do them ;-)

Theres really not much to screw up lol take off the wheel and there are 2 bolts in the back of the caliper. Take them out hang the caliper so its not hanging by the brake line. Take a c clamp and push the cylinder back in and put the new pads in. Put it back together and ur good. So easy my little sister could do it lol. On another note you definately want to turn the rotors every time u do a brake job, even if they dont "look" that bad. If you dont the brakes wont heat evenly and wont last as long plus they may brake weird or even warp the rotor. Its definately worth taking them to a shop or auto parts store with a brake lathe and getting them to turn em only costs like 20 bucks.
