Good day!

I have a 2000 XLS and my transmission has been acting up. A few months ago I changed the tranny fluid at about 80k and a few weeks later the tranny started to "over rev" when shifting into 3rd gear. It would also hesitate to downshift back into 2nd when slowinf down, unless comiung to a stop. I brought the X to a tranny shop and I was told that the valve body gasket was blown out and needed to be replaced. I had the work done and the tranny still does the same thing.

Althought there are these issues, it is still driveable and has not gotten worse. I learned how to release the acelerator at the right moment to shift easier and manualy put the tranny in 2nd when slowing down.

I was told that the tranny needs to be rebuilt and that this may not definately fix the problem. The shop feels that it is a clutch that operates that gear.

My question is, would it be feasible to drive the X with this problem and hope that it does not get worse, or have the rebuild done?

Thank you,

Hank

Hank.... this sounds a lot like a possible line pressure issue, potenially related to the EPC valve. Have them check the line pressures, it's easy to do.
