1995 E.B. Edition
Hi there. I'm the new owner of a 95 E.B. Edition Explorer and I had a couple of ?s I thought ysomeone here might be able to help me with.

There is some kind of anti theft unit ( at least i think that is hwat it is) right under the right side of the steering wheel. It says anti theft by it and it has a flat like circut key thingy in it. When I lock the car it blinks a few times, assuming it means its been engages.
anyhow I am not sure how that alram works or waht kind it is or what it does, and I would also like to know should it go off accidently or something is there a way to shut it off?
If anyone knows anything they can tell me about them thatwould be great.

also a couple of other things....one is can the passenger air bad be shut off temporarily and if so how would you do that? I didn't see any other kind of key thingy except the one for the anti theft unit.

There is also a key code bar on the drivers door, don't really plan on using it but would like to know if there is way to find out the code to it or change it?

Thanks bunches in advance for any help. YOu can post to me here I'll check back or email me at moostang66@hotmail.com

First off....welcome to the site. You will find a lot of useful info here and they have a great search feature.

Now, for your factory alarm (anti-theft light), the alarm is wired to the locks. In order for it to go off, someone has to enter the vehicle without using the key, keypad or remote door release if you've got it on your keychain. It will also go off when your battery is nearly dead (I know this cause mine did that). To shut it off, you have to function the locks with the key, the keypad or your remote. If you wish to test it, roll the window down all the way and lock the vehicle. Wait at least 30 secs for alarm to set then reach in and unlock it from the inside. Your horn should honk and the headlights flash on and off.

For the keypad code, if you go into the rear compartment on the driver's side, there's a panel you remove to get the jack. Using a good flashlight and even better eyesight or a small mirror, look forward of the jack and you should find a module in there with a sticker on it that has the code written on it. It is not easy or fun to find. You might be lucky enough to still have the plastic card in the owner's manual with the code on it as well. If you need more info on this, search under "keyless code".

Can't help you on the airbag, sorry.

Good Info Bashman!

Welcome Aboard Moostang Rita!!

I don't believe there is any way to turn off the pass. air bag. I think '95 was before they started realizing that airbags could be dangerous.

Welcome.

The flat circuit key is for a starter disable. I had one in my old bronco. I think it was made by ATS. Basicly you have to plug it in before you can start it. It can become really annoying and many people plug it in and tape it there.

I am so sorry for not getting back to you all sooner and saying thank you for all your help. the newest family edition Roscoe ( the raccoon ) decided that DSL cables were fun to chew on  so was without the net for a bit till I could get around and get a new cable. I read the replies and was in a hurry so didn't take the time to reply with a thank you and then my little varment had to start teething :)

So sorry for taking so long!

I really appreicate the help you all offered and I wqs able to find the code for the door right where you said it would be. It is a bit of a pain to get to but finally manged it. That key security thingy under the steering wheel is a pain in the butt....I'm so petite that I sit so close my knee hits it every time I venture off road. Guess I'm gonna have to invest in a kneee pad LOL :p

So far I'm loving my Explorer but some unknown little problems have arisen. Windshield wipers work but when you turn them down to a lower speed they decided to just take a "break" and stop working unless I turn them all the way off and then back on. What a pain and a bit of a fright during a thundershower on the freeway of all times and places!!
She also has a bit of a funny noise coming from front drivers wheel when the breaks are applied. Doesn't exactly sound like brake pads or anything but something that will have to be looked at. Anyone know if Explorers have any kind of known brake or front wheel problems??

Thanks again for everything, looking forward to reading more posts now that I have my net back up and running!
