I have just completely Rebuilt a 98 4x4 explorer 4.0 SOHC engine.
This site was very helpful in doing so.
I also had tranny troubles so, I found a transmission out of a 97 explorer, with low miles from a Salvage yard. It is supposed to be a good transmission.
Well this weekend I put the tranny in, then installed the motor.
The tranny/engine was in a bind, I thought I could take the bind out my installing some of the bolts around the bell housing to engine. I ended up getting the bolts too tight, because I couldnt manually turn the engine over. I ended up having to pull the engine back out because I couldnt get the Torque converter lined up to the flywheel. after inspecting the TC I noticed it had a burr on the shaft, so I filed the burr down smooth.
Reinstalled engine everything line up perfectly.
Started the engine, and there is a loud hi pitch noise coming from the rear of the engine. I turn engine off, check fluid levels, tranny is alittle low, add more fluid, start engine, still same results, loud noise.
Anyone have any ideal what this noise could be??
Thanks
Mike
