hey there all looking to mount two 8" subs in my 95 4door to give it some mid bass thing is where can i mount them to make it look factory or at the very least clean. i already have a compo set of infinity kappa's. in the front doors and a 5*7 clarion compo plate set in the rear. any guess where i can fit 2 8's? the rear is out the question seeing as how the rest of the stereo is back there.

The better option is sell the components you have and buy a nice 6.5" set, or a 7" set that has a lot a midbass. There are some out there that really will have as much midbass or damn near it as a nice 8" sub.

Make custom kickpanels for your midbass speaks, I think that's what I'm gonna have to do instead of cuttin up the door panel. (Just not that brave doin that to my new truck yet)

components only produce mid range not mid bass mid bass the frequency range starting from about 80 Hz to 300 Hz mid range starts about 200 Hz leaving a rather large gap in your frequency range, if you listen to rap or other heavy bass songs you don't notice it as much, however if you enjoy guitar driven music such as i do you will notice a rather large gap. even wonder why comp cars are usaully 3 way systems ? tweeter mid range and mid bass. i was thinking about doing that only thing is a 8" sub takes up alot of space. i got thinking i might be to do an under dash mount but how do i that ? well not how but, where could i install mounting points for the box?

Maybe consider a pair of smaller "mids"?

One of my buddies had a early 90's GMC Sonoma, and he built some custom front door pods with two 6", one 4", and two tweeters. Not sure on what brands he used, but Vifa, Peerless, and Dynaudio might be some of them. Great front stage. Each door was powered by a 300 watt V-12 Alpine amp.

i would but i got hte 8's for an awesome price.

As already mentioned, you can get midbass out of a good set of comps. Plenty of quality component sets out there will play great all the way down to 70 hz. This would be the best way, considering you don't have room. Besides, have you really thought about the other things involved? Do you have the processing needed to send the specific frequency range you want to the midbass drivers? Do you have an extra amp for it? If you are absolutely set on it, your only logical choices are going to be custom kick panels, or serious door modification. You can either cut a bigger hole in your door or make door pods, and then put the mids and tweets in the kicks, or build kicks big enough to house the 8s. Again, I would highly recommend just getting your midbass from your comps. You can get a lot more midbass, and better overall sound, by deadening the crap out of your doors. Use several layers of quality material (I used Dynamat Xtreme) and use something behind the woofer as well (I used Dynaxorb). This will make a very big difference.

With a nice set of components you can get a lot of midbass out of them. I have some that can play down to about 50hz with no problems and have tons and tons of output. BTW I had a 3-way setup that I sold and bought the new components and have just as much midbass.

well i guess you know better than me and everyone up here that competes in db dragracing and iasca sq comps, but guess what i'm still the installing 8's why cause i can , i believe in doing one thing and doing it well , mid range cannot produce mid bass well it can do it a lil bit, i mean sure if i had as much money as you do i could go buy a set of re components or macrom but i don't ! the inifinty comps that i have are a very good set, they still do not produce what i am looking for.

Cool man. Do your own thing. Why even ask us for advice?

I still ponder the answers to a few things.

How are you powering these 8s? Have you tried sound-deadening in the doors? What are you using to send the exact frequency range you need to these 8s? Do you even know what range you want these 8s to play? What brand of 8s are you going with? Are you going to seal your door or run it IB?

You lost me when you mentioned the rear not being an option because of room. You wouldn't want your midbass coming from the rear anyway. It would screw up your staging bad.

I'm no competitor, mainly because I don't have the time. But some of us have offered solid advice, and speak from experience/real knowledge. Ultimately, you'll just do what you want and learn for yourself. It's all good. Again - good luck.

yes i amit that there has been alot of info given the reason that i came on here and asked for info was this is explorer specific site, i was wondering if someone had done already what i was looking to do. i was not looking for everybody to say that i should just go out and buy new components. i was looking for well i did this maybe you can elaborate on that, that kind of info, the other thing is i'm not stupid when it comes to sound i'm educated in installing and electronics it's what i do for a living. as for powering them i have a spare MTX thunder 6304 the 8"s are an older RF p1, frequency range i'm aiming to hit is about 100 Hz to 300Hz it's simple i build a bandpass filter. right now i'm leaning towards custom kick panels or something up there i was looking to do an under dash mount but i don't know if i have enough space, door panels would be nice i have see how much cubic ft i need for airspace though as to how big everything has to be? i'm not trying to be a dink, i just don' take kindly to somebody tell me that my components are crap and i should go spend a ton of money on new ones.

very difficult to fit 8s in the kicks in an explorer

this will only be worth it if you are going to run some very solid 8s (ie- really see a gain over some good 6.5s or 7s)

i'll be running 300 watts to a 10" up front (stock glovebox/heater/some underhood space for the box), and 500x2 rms to "components" with id horns and two ED 6.5s per side.

wait- reread all that now

not worth it to run those 8s, just forget it
