My HU comes with a remote control that I decided to flush mount in the armrest of the center console. I cut out the vinyl and foam today and created a tunnel for the remote signal. I also put a lens in the front of the armrest to make it look clean. I'd rate the look of the project a 6.5 right now, mainly because there are gaps between the vinyl and the remote.

I want to create a fiberglass tray(like a soap dish) that would wrap tightly around the remote and sit in the hole I created with a 1/2 inch border around the hole so it looks clean. I'm thinking that I might even wrap it down over the remote eye as well.

I looked at Drew Wilson's write-up, and I'm confident enough that I can make it work, but what I'd like to know is what is the best way to make this tray. Meaning, should I...

1. create a tray around the remote and set in the hole in the rest -- my problem with that is shaping the edges of the tray to be flush with the armrest

2. create the tray in the hole in the armrest since it will allow me to wrap the tray to the contours of the armrest -- not sure then that I'll get a great fit around the remote.

3. something I'm not thinking of.

Like I said, I understand the process, but I'm not sure about the finer details. I've added some pics to show what I've done so far.

Thanks!
