have a 98 explorer sport 4.0 x code so i guess OHC ... out of no where i started to get a studder in the engine ... took it to advance auto to hook the box up and i get a misfire on cyl 4 ... ok ... changed the coil pack plugs wires ... (and air filter oil and oil filter while im at it)... and i was still getting the studdering from the truck and now it started to back fire ... i took it back to advance for the box and it says miss on 4 again ... reading on the net ... i do a seafoam treatment and there is smoke everywhere took it out drove it for about 8 miles and after that i still am getting a miss fire and back fire so now im stuck and dont know what to do shy of changing the fuel injector ... im asking for alittle help here .... this site has never let me down

so thank you all in advance

yuppp... still no answer yet ... did everyone go on vac. at the same time ..lol

try simple things like a spark tester on cylinder 4 wire. Could have a weak spark, could be low compression, bad fuel injector. It would help if you actually got the code and not their interpretation.

Thank you .... that will be next

took my truck to the shop and found out that 2 wires were crossed 4 and 5 ... and the book i was going by was wrong ... fixed that

The coil pack is usually marked with the cylinder numbers that many people don't pay attention to. If your 8th digit in the VIN is an "x" then you have the OHV V6 and not the SOHC V6.
