I've got a 91 ExplorerXL with the 4.0. Last night it died at the gas station, and wouldn't restart. Had it pulled to the house, found that the starter was loose, one bolt missing, the other about 5 turns out. Put a new bolt in and tightened it all up. Then all it would do was rurn off, no fire. Chrcked fot fuel and fopund it was getting good fuel flow. This morning I went out and it started just like its supposed to. Is it possible that a sensor is going bad, and is there a way to check this without having a computor on hand?

bump

what does bump mean? i never got that

"bump" is a way to put a new entry on your thread so that it will show up closer to the top of the "new threads" section, and be noticed easier.

Did you hear a single click when you tried to start it at the gas station?

I didn't notice a click, but then I was getting a weeeeee bit frustrated. Talked to a buddy today and he seemed to think it could be the ignition module. I started it, let it run for about a half hour, then shut it off and started it a couple of mins. later with no issues.

It certainly sounds like an ignition module going bad. They will act up when hot, and then work again when they cool off. You really need to check for a code though, to confirm the type of problem.
