1999 Explorer XLT
I bought my 99 Explorer XLT about a year ago, and was told (by the dealer) to bring it in and they'd lower the front end. It looks as though the previous owner wanted the "california lift" look (raising the front suspension while leaving the rear "stock"). Well, they gave me the run around and tried to charge me for the work, to the tune of $400.

That said, I've done three searches on "Torsion Twist 101", as one member told another to search for in a related thread, and it's not coming up. Could/would someone either guide me in the right direction on the forums, or, help me out in describing how to go about doing the torsion twist so I can get my suspension leveled out?

Thanks very much for any and all suggestions/solutions in advance.

here it goes! follow thw tortion bars till you see the protectors of the rear of the bar then look up and you should see an oblong hole with a bolt in the middle of it. it is a 13 mm bolt. now on mine if you pull the bolt towards you it raises the truck and push it away it lowers . you may want to soak the bolt and adjuster with pb blaster to loosen it up a bit. and dont forget to measure both sides b4 you start and to keep measuring through out the process or itll be hard to get level hope this helps.

Loosen the torsion bar preload bolts, drive it around. Loosen the torsion bar bolts, drive it around. Repeat this until you get the ride height you desire. Then go get a front end alignment.

You can either let the torsion bars back down, or you can get lift shackles for the rear to level it out.

heres the thread: torsion bar 101

Thanks very much Shadowex, JamesT, and SurrealNJ. I really appreciate the information/how to's. One needs only to witness me working on my Explorer to know just how much I appreciate the info. :hammer:
