OK guys - need some help. The wife is on my a$$ about putting in some type of TV system so on the vacations she can watch a DVD or two, play a game, etc. I am wanting one I can plug a laptop or comparable into.

I haven't looked into a stereo system since I put in my Aline double din, so I'm a little rusty on what to go with. Any advice?>?

Here is my head unit and changer in the console. I would like ot put the LCD up front, but not sure if I can or if it is feasible...

first i'd say you have to have AUX inputs or your life wiill get very difficult.

after that i think you'll need somesort of adapter for your laptop to feed the video and or audio to the the LCD screen or speakers
if i can be of more help let me know and i'll see what i can do

Since your Alpine HU looks new it probally does have some sort of line in (AUX). Next check out some cheap LCDs in the $100 range (ebay, http://www.cardiscountstereos.com/Mobile Video.htm ). Then get a cheap DVD player (APEX $60) then a power inverter. And your set! Wire the DVD Audio to the AUX, the Video out to the LCD, and then the Power to the Power inverter. Youve got sound and youve got picture

If you are planning to hook up a laptop why bother integrating it into the car? Let her sit there with it in her lap and watch the movie on the built in DVD player. You can use aux if you want to use the truck's audio.

I like what Zenius said too...

Thanks guys - I had thought about putting a DVD into the laptop and going the way zensius said. It would make things easier, but my other thought was putting the antenna in the headliner (or roof - whichever way it mounts) so I could get the local channels when we are out somewhere.

Guess its time to go shopping for some info on units and see what I should get. I wasn't sure exactly how technical this was going to be, but basically it sounds like a plug and play setup...

Thanks guys...

If you want to get local channels, your'e going to need a TV tuner also. Most of the LCD screens you see are just that, they will display whatever signal is sent to them(DVD, VCR, video game, TV) but they usually don't have the tuner built in unless it's specified.

Providing your laptop has usb then your made. You can get a usb tv/capture card and use it like a tv. about $60. All you need then is an antenna for the x and away we go. You could also look at a dc to dc converter for the power instead of an inverter serveral about depends on what voltage the laptop wants. Radioshack has loads. Hope this helps.
