So I have an '04 4x4 xlt explorer and need some expert advice as to what I should do to my X. Looking to add a lift and some new tires but not sure as to which tires and how large I can go with stock lift. I have 245/70/17 on there now and still hve room to breathe. And regarding the lift, I'm looking at going fast and doing the rancho quick lift just to get a little more height and clearance. It's primarily my hunting/working/hunting vehicle and do a lot of hunting that I have to travel and carry gear to get to, so ride comfort and traction is a must. I'm also adding some off-road lights and looking at fabricating a roof rack and some different running boards. Any insight and advice is greatly appreciated.

Bayouguy,

Best way to add some lift on a 3rd gen is a BTF strut spacer lift or Truxxx spacer lift. You can get them in multiple sizes, I believe the largest for BTF is 2.25" in front and 1.75" in the rear (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If your concerned about ride quality, then I wouldn't do this unless you get BTF upper control arms which are like $575...yeah i know thats what I said. Cause your front end will be extremely stiff if you don't. But if you dont want alot of lift, then the rancho quick lift would probably be the way to go. If you want to do a body lift just to clear larger tires then theres a really easy and cheap way to lift it 1.5" theres a thread up top on how to do that. I have the BTF spacer lift (2.25" front, 1.75" rear I believe) and the 1.5" body lift and cleared 33" tires. Hope this helps! Heres my truck.
