I have had the neutral tow function enabled on my Explorer and installed an LED for indication. The problem I have is the LED glows very dim when the key is on. It goes bright when it goes through the bulb check. When I try to put the transfer case in neutral nothing happens.

You are assuming that we all know what that "neutral tow function enabled" means and what have you actually have done. There is not a factory thing/device that you can "enable" for that.
In Ford's manuals, for 4x4 and AWD Explorers is stated "DO NOT TOW THE VEHICLE".

Describe your shift procedure step by step, please. Also details on the kit and where it was installed.

I did not purchase a kit but just connected an LED to the wires on the green connector that was taped to the wiring harness under the dash.

To shift the transfer case into neutral,
1. Start engine, shift transmission into neutral
2. Turn key back 2 positions to turn off engine and accessories. Leave transmission in neutral.
3. Hold brake and 4x4 button at the same time. This should cause the LED to flash a few times and then remain on.

This is the same setup and procedure i used on my 2003. Explorer

So we're talking about an '08 here as listed on your profile? Let's clarify that before going further, because AFAIK the 2G explorers require programming.

You are posting in the '95-'01 subforum. If it's not in that model year range you would likely have better luck posting in the right subform instead or seeing if a moderator can move the topic there.

It seems I am on the wrong forum. Nevertheless, I just came from the Ford dealer and it appears the 2008 Explorer requires an additional neutral switch that comes with the Ford kit
I have ordered one and will see what happens.

You should consider having the dealer install it.
