the best way to start is to trash ur stock method of intake and exhaust... the stock airbox starves the engine of air and the stock exhaust produces massive amounts of backpressure in releasing the air... the best to start is intake system and exhaust... changing ur cats and headers will help too but those gains will be smaller than from stock to intake and exhaust... ull be pleased with anything since u have more horsepower to start with... i have the 4.0L v6 and the gains i had were nice... nothing too fancy but its enough for me to pop into tight spaces in traffic
On my 01 sport I had an intake and exhaust it seemed to help.
Which intake is the best for the the 4.6L? Exhaust is going to take me a while. The exhaust I had on the sport was really loud, overly loud. Is it possible to get some gains with out increasing the noise to much?

any intake will work about the same as long as u ditch the stock airbox... for example if u went out and bought a new filter from K&N but it wasnt a 360 degree cone filter, ur gains wouldnt be as obvious... as long as the filter is a full cone and is made of cotton, u can use the same method to clean it as u would for a K&N cone filter... i got a cheap filter at pepboys for 30 bux and its worked great
as for exhaust, as long as u get rid of ur stock muffler, taking further measures wont be enough for u to notice a significant difference... ur stock muffler's main focus is to lower the decibel level, hence the horrible gas mileage and performance due to immense backpressure... as long as ur muffler lets more flow in ur gains will be good... it doesnt have to be wide open like a flowmaster 40 for u to notice it... i have a 40 and personally its a bit loud and i could have rathered a 50 or 70 but my gas mileage and performance gains r still there
Thanks, you had pictures and everything. I believe it was the flow master 40 I had on before. It drove me nuts. I work 2nd shift so I know others did not like it either.
Underdrive pullys any experiance with them? I'm not sure if I want to mess with those. Currently I don't do any towing but its possible that could change
Underdrive pulleys are by far the best bang for the buck, I sell the ASP pulleys and the quality is excellent. Zero charging problems. You will feel this modification.-j
Cool, hope you get the site up to speed. For now I think I am just going to change out the airfilter for a cotten open cone type. Anything else can wait until spring.
according to aldive: "UDPs allow a motor to net more horsepower by freeing up power lost to parasitic drag. For dollar value, many think UDPs are one of the best mods for HP gain on the market today."

thanx for the insight... if it didnt seem like a pain in the ass i mite have to do it... my next project after finally getting my remote start in (they said they get it in stock next monday) will be to repaint my pillars... im gunna completely sand them down and recoat them with krylon fusion gloss black and take my time with it... ill def post pics when i get it done
I went to pep boys and picked up a cotten cone filter end. I ended up getting the larger one, meaning I had to take both halfs of the stock airbox out. Any suggestings to shield the cone filter some what? Kind of like what the intake kits that cost to much use?
i would just suggest some tough plastic really... i dont have a shield on mine and its worked well but it gets dirty alot quicker... if u can makeshift some sort of plastic or weld a metal box, u can pull it off... it will work regardless but its nice to have a shield over it
Where can I find other performnace bolt ons for the 4.6L? I am thinking of underdrive pullies and possibly a TB. I don't know about the headers yet. I may get them later on.
I figure Intake, exhaust, pullies, and tuner are the way to go first.

Its Josef, not jose, I answered my own question. I tend to somewhat answer my own questions when asking them. I just am looking where to buy parts. Are mustang parts able to work?
Normally, I need to be 100% sure about something before acting. Which is why i ask questions.

depends on what it is... if u were to get headers they would bolt to the block but they would not be made for ur chassis and would be off by a long shot... any other part may work depending on what it is... for example, a supercharger may be questionable if its for a 32V V8 rather than a 16V V8 (cobra/mach 1 vs. regular GT)... other things like intakes and throttle bodies may work but i would look into it first
Yeah, intake I am not worried about, I got that covered. Headers I have been able to find those as well. Pullies, TB, larger MAF housing, those are things I have a hard time finding anything on.
Pullies intrest me the most, I need to know every thing about them. DO I just need the crank? Do I need to get a set that comes with alt and water pump to insure those still work. Do I need another belt? Must I buy pullies just for the x or will the stang work.........all stuff thats harder for me to find. When I had the 4L I was able to use some ranger parts.
