New 03 4.6L

Its Josef, not jose, I answered my own question. I tend to somewhat answer my own questions when asking them. I just am looking where to buy parts. Are mustang parts able to work?

Normally, I need to be 100% sure about something before acting. Which is why i ask questions.

I can understand you wanting to be sure but take a look at post #9 in this thread. A vendor has already informed you that they sell the exact thing you said you are looking for in your previous post.

While some Mustang GT parts are usable others are not. Take a look at allot of my old threads as all your questions have been answered in great detail in those various threads.

I some how skipped over his post. His website is well under construction. I did message him. I am waiting for a responce. It could just be my computer but I never seem to get the same search results twice in a row.

Okay, we are good now. I was able to find them on the website now. Now just to wait a couple of weeks before getting it.

Bump,

How hard is it to change out the pullies? Any special tools needed? I was about to order them, but i stopped. Its the winter hear in new england and with highs in the lower 30's it may be best to wait if the job takes a lot of time.

I will ask a couple of mechanics I know as well. I was going to wait for the computer tuning until after the pullies. My idea is if the idle voltage is kind of low I can always have the idle raised a few rmps. In the mean time I am going to look into my exhaust.

I still have a warrenty on the Ex, I am not postive but I think an exhaust will void that. With that in mind i need to see if anything else could void it.

I figure that with a computer tune I can always revert back to stock for any warrenty work. But with any thing else its not so easy.

You will need a harmonic balancer puller to pull the balancer, 1/2" breaker bar or ratchet to twist the belt tensioner to take the serp belt off, and a small ratchet and I believe an 8 mm socket to take the clutch fan cowl off, then also a clutchfan wrench set as well. Keep in mind that your harmonic balancer center bolt likely has a tip too big to fit through the hole in the stock balancer that crank bolt goes through. You will have to back the crank bolt out a few turns and then tighten the puller center bolt onto that crank bolt to pull the pulley off a bit then loosen the puller center bolt and unscrew the crank bolt a little further, then repeat that process until the pulley finally comes off. If you can find a balancer puller who's center bolt will go through the harmonic balancer hole then it will be a snap and you can skip most of my previous two sentences. I haven't seen one that small yet, but they may be out there. Be careful as the back of the center bolt for the balancer puller will probably be very close to your radiator while doing this.

If you do not run into any problems then expect the job to take a little less than 2 hours if you are an experienced wrencher. Even less if you have a puller with the smaller center bolt.

I did UDP's for a customer of mine up here that has an X just like yours. He has had zero charging issues with it at all. I would not be concerned with charging issues at all unless you are running an electric fan and large aftermarket stereo system.

I see, thankyou for the reply. I am going to be running only a stock sound setup. As far as electric fans go, I tend to have bad luck with them, so that should not be an issue either.

The only thing that concerns me is warrenty. The previous owner got the extended power train warrenty and it carried over. I am still looking throught the fine print, but its possible there is some kind of surcharge that allows you to upgrade some components with out voiding anything.

I totally thought you had a 4.0 V6 not a 4.6 V8. Guess I should have taken another look at the thread title. While all of my advice on tools will still apply, the whole harmonic balancer hole size thing will not be an issue. Your 4.6 front pulley has a much larger hole which will allow the harmonic balancer's center bolt will easily fit through.

i found a picture of what you were talking about in the haynes manuel. But I don't always like the way they word things.
