Just picked up a Explorer with remote start. The remote system needs to be programmed. I have a remote with no identifiable name or number and I cant seem to find the "control box".

Where do they usually hide them?
I looked behind the kick panel on the drivers side.

I have an aftermarket remote start on my '02 Sport.

Mine, and other Explorers I have seen, have the brain located under the panel directly under the Steering wheel - by the OBD2 port. Seems to be a favourite of installers.

Does that panel come off or is the stuff tucked up inside?

Yes, tt comes off - it is just held on by a few smallish bolts if I remember correctly.

Yes, you're correct.

The panel is held in by a few bolts, and then clips. Then there's a big metal panel behind that.

Can you post a pic of the remote?
And, are you sure that the remote start is connected properly, and they didn't disconnect it before selling the car?
