I know my 1995 Ranger has restricted air flow, but I don't know if the Explorers are the same way.

My Ranger has the round cylinder air box that sucks air from the passenger side fender. Well if the Explorers are the same way this might work for you.

My parents had a Pickup Camper that the Refrig. wouldn't cool right. So they bought a 12volt small fan to help push the air down to help cool it. This fan cost about $15 and they got it at a RV store.

I bet you already know that K&N has a Fuel Injection Performance Kit out for the Ranger and Explorers. Well if you don't, this kit replaces the entire box and puts a K&N filter in its place.

When you buy this kit you have to take the box out and install the filter and brakets. When you take the Air box out you still have the hole where it first suck air out of. This hole is where you would install that little fan to help bring in more air to that K&N filter.

So you install the 12V fan over the hole and install the K&N Fuel Injection Kit in place of the air box should bring in twice as much air as before. Both these items will cost around $300, thats just an educated guess.

I haven't tested it myself, it's just an idea.:D
