Hello everyone,
This is my first post, although i have been reading alot on here the past few days. I've learned quite a bit, and have some ideas.

Anywho, i just recently bought a 97 Mountaineer 2wd
Its in great shape, now i just gotta make it my own.

I'm planning on doing a torsion twist to lift the front a couple inches, but in the rear i had a different idea than the shackles. How about a set of air shocks?
Has anyone done this before? I'd appreciate any comments you all have

Do not, repeat do not use air shocks. Shackles will be cheaper and fairly easy to install. You won't have a rust problem in FL.

Air shocks are to help with overlaod only and are prone to leaking.

i'll take your word for it.... was just an idea

How much different is the ride with a 2" tt and shackles?

And another question
I've read that with a 2wd pretty much the sky is the limit, but doesnt the bar bottom out? Ya u can get longer bolts, but the bar doesnt just keep spinning, its gotta stop somewhere, right? Its hard to type what im trying to explain, but maybe someone understands

The torsion bar does not spin. By tightening the bolt it puts more pressure/leverage on the torsion bar.

You are going to need an alignment after the torsion twist. You will also need need new camber adjusters on both sides. Go with the 2-1/2 degree ones. Advance Auto has them on line.

I guess i didnt really mean spin, i meant turn.

I already need an alignment, but i figured i'll wait until i do this til i get one.

Does anyone have a link to where i can get shackles? And can i only get them online?

Most people here use the Warrior 1.5" Shackles. I recently did exactly what you just asked about (tt, shackles (Copperhead(sucks)), 31" tires) and the ride is a heck of a lot stiffer than before. I actually like the stiff truck handling, so to each his own. At some point, I believe it's about 3" of lift (not including tires), you will need to get bigger shock absorbers, drop your transfer case, or something to that extent..

Use the search button and read around, there's a lot of great articles and threads to help you out.
The two that helped me the most out with the installation of the shackles and TT were:
