Hello all and thank you in advace

Here is my problem I just did an engine swap in a 99 explorer 4.0 OHV and put in a 1997 4.0 OHV. I have finished the project and all was well until I turned the key. The starter is new and does one click. It goes to engage and stops right there, no spinning. I thought the new starter was bad but had it tested and it was fine. Also another symptom is as soon as I turn the key into the igition position I hear it attempt to engage and I loose power to all systems in the vehicle. I pressume it is an electrical issue. I have a New battery. The started does the same thing when I hook it up directly to a battery. It just advances forward half an inch and does nothing else. (no spinning). Hopefully sombody can tell me what I am doing wrong.

Check Your Grounds & your primary electrical connections ie. Battery terminals & Connection at starter but it sounds like a bad ground

sounds like a bad ground how is the condition of the Bat. cables?

Newb, Did you Solve This Issue OR No ? I Was KInda Half Asleep Yesterday Reread your post, When You bench test your starter you need to supply A. ground to case( Mounting Flange)B.12Volts To Positive Lug(where cable from battery attaches) C. 12 volts to the starter solenoid Stud(smaller stud should be above & to the right of the large 12v feed stud. If all this was done corectly & the starter dosnt throw out & spin then bad starter, could have been cooked by a bad ground that is bout the most common problem i see up here. With youre entire lights goin out when you start your truck(attempt to) it is pointing to a bad ground since you just swaped motors recheck all your connections im sure youll find one either loose / not connected or not making good contact ie. over rust or paint, it will probably be a main ground battery to frame or block to frame,
Hope this helps
~Drew~
