after some how to posts on where to put switches, i made my decision, and came out with a pretty good looking extension onto my 1st gen's dash. pefect for the switch for my amp.
Now first off, yes, my amp is NOT remote turn on anymore, because of some small siblings that cannot handle the bass. This is my dash extension with my new switch...

however, i cannot find a good place to get power for this switch.
My straight forward otions seemed like the ashtray light, or the lighter socket. i tried splicing it into the ashtray light wire, and figured out that the wire is dead (after the multimeter). so nw my option is the lighter socket, but im confuse which wire to splice into. the Black, or the baby blue?

You can always run a wire for power to an under hood source.

You can also tap power from the fuse block. They make these gizmos that replace a fuse, giving you a new circuit in parallel to your existing fused circuit. Depending which circuit you tap into, you will have either switched or constant power.

I grabbed switched power from the fuse block. I grabbed power from the feed to the fuse block (on the back side) and ran that to an additional fuse block, which powers my switches, etc.

For constant power, I ran a wire from the battery (actually, the battery connection on the starter solenoid) to a fuse block.

And from a fuse to a switch.

so if i splice into the blue wire, i'll have constant power?
