i have a 97 5.0 V8. any Cylinder head ideas??? i want the biggest performance gain for under $500 for the set of heads. i currently have the oem GT40p heads but have what i believe to be a lazy lifter and slight valve lash so they need to go.. any input would help thanks.

I don't think you'll be able to find anything better than the P's for under $500. A decent set of heads cost well over a grand. Your best bet would probably be some a valve job for around $600-$800.

The GT40s are actually really great heads if you give them a chance! :D

Make good use of your heads and port them. Remember, the bottleneck is the exhaust manifolds. Going with big heads may not be of great improvement if you are forcing it through a straw! Good luck!

good luck gettin a valve job for under 500. i almost went the porting route, but then for like 300 more i could get a set of twisted wedges. still looking for some custom headers

Port the heads for sure and have them rebuilt. But for the cost of that to be done you'd be close to getting some nice aluminum heads.

I picked up a set of stage 3 ported Edelbrock Performer 5.0's for my mustang and they are freaking awesome. Got them for 1k from the head shop that ported them. If my stang ever gets wrecked they're going on my X :)

However the biggest problem is not the heads. The GT-40P's stock can produce fantastic numbers! Your #1 problem performance wise is the Exhaust headers and exhaust system.

The headers are just junk plain and simple. WAY to small. Then the exhaust Y's to a single 2 1/4 pipe I believe.
