New Dynomax Exhaust = Weird Smell???

I just installed my new Dynomax Exhaust today (In a gravel driveway with ramps only ... hey stop laughing) Anyways is it normal for the exhaust to put out a burnt smell for awhile? I figured it is just a "burn in" phase and that the smell will go away soon, but I thought I might ask a few people who know more than me. So, what do you have to tell me? Any help is appreciated.

It probably has a film of oil on inside and out that is burning off. Just make sure that it isnt too close to the body or any rubber bushings etc. You dont want the carpet over the muffler to catch fire

Yup, a strange smell is normal for a few days after doing exhaust.

When i put my dynomax system on about 6 months ago it smelled really bad from the oil burning off of it and it also smoked because of oil inside the muffler. It stopped smoking after a few days and the smell went away about a week later.

Did your dynomax muffler fit almost like the stock one or is it close to the driveline? Just wondering. Thanks.

It fit perfect as far as I could tell. The hangers brackets seemed a bit "slippy" so Im having a friend weld a small knob on the end of the bracket just to make sure it doesnt come off the rubber hanger. I dont think it would come off but you know its like they say. Better safe than sorry.

I'm picturing a round rod that slips thru the hole in the rubber hanger.

If this is what you have, you could drill a small hole near the end of the rod, put a washer (SS) over the rod, then a cotter pin thru the hole you drilled to keep washer (and hanger) on the rod.

wouldn't that solution be a bit noisy? and a lot more work?

I don't think it would be that noisy, but its just a suggestion. If you are worried about the washer hitting the cotter pin, just leave the washer off.

Seems like a lot less work to me, but I don't weld stuff (I did a long time ago, but not recently)

Another thought I had was to just put a SS hose clamp over the rod, but this might work loose eventually.

Hey Bro. I put DynoMax's Super Turbo Muffler on my XLT and it smelled and was smoking really bad in the garage. It smelt like plastic burning. But thats neither here nor there. I only say this because I left a peice of plastic sheathing on my exhaust manifold while wrapping wires and it started to melt. Needless to say I step out of my car and said I smell new exhaust. I check the line and I found the problem.

You might look into getting a new Air Intake from MAC or K&N. That will help to.

I checked the line when the smell started, you know just to make SURE that I havent screwed up and left something somewhere but it was all OK. I did though use a trick an old mechanic friend of my dad's (my dad's a 33 year auto parts veteran) showed me a long time ago. You take a quart jar (like a canning jar) and hold it over the tailpipe for a couple of seconds. This way you know what smells are coming through the exhaust and which are coming from under the vehicle. Just dont smell the jar too much. That old mechanic could tell alot by smelling the exhaust, weirdest thing Ive ever seen. He passed away several years ago, but I think he'd like me passing his knowledge to others.

But I wonder if his passing had anything to do with smelling too much exhaust?
