- 2022 Explorer XLT
Hello! First post here, and first time Explorer owner.
We recently picked up a used white XLT 4WD, with only 4600 miles on the clock. The original owner had inexplicably installed Nitto all terrain tires, and not even the correct size!
Needless to say, it drove like crap and howled like a monkey. I can't help but think that contributed to its early trade in, it was truly terrible. Those tires have now been replaced with Pirelli Scorpion tires in the correct size. It's obviously MUCH better.
I've already begun the personalization, since I can't leave anything stock. I drew up and 3D printed some "explorer" lettering for the side sills, and cut some vinyl lettering for the back trim piece. I'm not totally happy with the back piece, but I really like the side sill lettering! I'll be hyper-dipping the rims in gloss black soon, and will likely black out the chrome side pieces (and probably the rear piece) eventually, probably with gloss black vinyl.
On the inside, the chrome pieces on the side of the console were blinding me, so some 'carbon' vinyl fixed that up. I may end up doing more of that on the inside. The stock mirror was replaced with an auto-dimming HomeLink Gentex unit, and a dash cam installed. Wire routing was pretty easy! And of course, a set of Weathertech mats to keep it clean(ish).
Oh! And a name: Betty. She can be Betty Ford or Betty White of course.
That's about all for now, but I'm sure as time goes by there will be more.
Chris
