- '98 EB Explorer 5.0
Greetings, everybody!
I found this site while researching which used SUV to replace my aging Isuzu Trooper. I've been reading for a while, and gleaned enough info to decide that what I was looking for was an Explorer with the 5.0 v-8 AWD. I found a nice one-owner loaded '08 Eddie Bauer with only 72k miles on it (& fresh tires & brakes), and picked it up for 4500. I've been pleased to find that everything works and the gas mileage is right in line with the EPA estimates. After driving my '88 Trooper for many years, this Explorer is a very nice ride - almost too nice.
We were looking forward to using the Explorer to pull our tent trailer, but I've found that I like it very much as a daily driver. Yeah - I know it's no gas-mileage champ...but I paid cash for it, so I can afford the gas.
I hope to do some minor improvements at some point, and I like to do what maintenance and repairs I can - so I'll keep reading. See you on the trail!
