Hi all,

I am about to purchase a 1997 ford explorer sport with 191000 miles. I know that sounds like a lot but the cab seems good for the age. What do you all think is this buying a truck with too many miles? Alot of the stuff that break everyday are broke. Any thing I should look for in a high mileage vehicle? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks from Texas

Welcome to the forum! The mileage is alright (too much for me), but if the price is right go for it!

I grew up in Plano and now live way north in Celina. Welcome. My current explorer has that many miles and is still going strong. Just give it a good look over.
If it is a good deal then grab it.

I personally would stay away from it unless you have a second vehicle. If it has the SOHC motor I would definitely say forget about it. Timing chain issues are these engines and their owners worst nightmares. So unless you have a lot of money hanging about in savings I would look for a lower mileage vehicle. The v8's in the second gens were beasts, so you may want to keep a look out for one of them.
