New from Ohio

hey everyone.. coming here because i may be getting an explorer very soon... just wanted to see how you all liked yours... what are some nice features they have? im still indecisive about what im about to purchase with it being my first car purchase coming from a 93 Toyota pickup... im in between the nissan frontier, hyundai santa fe, and the ford explorer.... help me out here! im not looking to do any mods (or at least ill try to refrain) but im looking for a nice comfy ride (anything is more comfy than my current beater) that can transport me/my girlfriend, and some more passengers comfortably and safe... i know the explorer has a 5 star in impact ratings so thats a plus! one of the things i cant quite get past me is the gas milage... im reading 15 city- low to mid 20s highway! yikes...soo.... try to win me over here everyone!

welcome. im in ohio as well. what year explorer are you looking at? as for the gas mileage, it will be like that for any comparable suv.

As far as Room/Gas mileage average, the explorer is about the same as anything else. That two inches more/less of legg or head room will add/subtract about 1-2 mpg. It's worth it to buy American.

thanks everyone for the welcome.. im in Cincinnati.. im looking at a 2003 XLT 4.0 v6 its got about 50,000 miles on it.... cant remember off the top of my head.. does anyone know how big the tank is?

Welcome. I like the fact that when one wheel slips then it kicks into four wheel drive. They also like the fact that they give a very nice ride. I personaly don't like the 07"+ (just beacuse of the styling) but I love all the other model years.

thanks for the info everyone! well im pretty much sold on this explorer down the street from me... its an 02 XLT, 4 wheel drive (i kinda want the AWD one but o well..) had a few questions before i buy though.... i noticed when i got in it today... the buttons for the 4 wheel drive said auto 4 wh 4 hi and 4 lo.... whats up with the auto 4 hi??? i dont have much experience with fords so thats new to me... ive always seen the knob you turn instead of the buttons...also... if anybody has a carfax and would like to help me out it would be greatly appreiciated! VIN is 1FMZU73K12UD34370 if anybody can help me out that would be wonderful.... this car is nice... its super clean for an 02, 62,000 miles, sunroof, 4wd, rugged trail tires (lots of tread) 4.0 v6 engine in nice and clean, and idk if the others have it but it has the tie downs in the back so thats def. another plus for me, and it also has the 2" class II hitch and wiring. im talkin the parents into cosigning for me since im just a few months under 18... if only i was 18 now..


again.... thanks and i hope someone here has a carfax that can help me out!

If you go to this website……you can ask for an “oasis” lookup (Ford’s internal service computer network) and they can tell you everything that has been every done on that truck.

im not having very much luck with the Oasis thing. I posted the VIN up the day i was told about the place (almost 3 days ago) and still havnt gotten anything back... does it normally take this long?
